The last will and Testament of Nehemiah Brush at present
of the City, State, and County of New York. I Nehemiah Brush
considering the uncertainty of this mortal life and being of Sound
mind and memory blessed be God, do make and publish this
my last will and Testament in manner and form following.
That is to Say, I give and bequeath to my beloved wife Margaret
Brush and my Children, viz, Julia Van Ness, John H. Brush,
Caroling E. Brush and Charles W. Brush each respectively four
Hundred Dollars which Said Sums of money Shall be paid to each of the
said legatees within two years after my decease, or sooner if the State of
the funds permit them, I then further give and devise to my said Daughter
Julia Van Ness her heirs and assigns, all my right title, interest,
in and to a tract of land being about twelve Hundred and fifty acres
more or less, the same having been conveyed to me by my said Daughter
Julia and Eugene Van Ness her Husband, and fifty acres thereof which
was conveyed *** ***** the Sheriff or tax collector of St. Johns
County Territory of Florida, Situate on the Matanzes River and Pallicers
creek, granted it is believed originally to one Tucker contain-
ing Eight hundred acres more or less, also, another tract or part of
a grant Situate in Mosqueto or Reid County in Said Territory at or near
a place known by the name of New Smyrna originally granted to
one Samuel Betts, containing two Thousand acres which said part,
portion and interest had been conveyed to me by my said Daughter Julia
and Eugene Van Ness her Husband in a certain deed recorded in the
Book of records in Said St. Johns County will more fully Show,
reference being thereunto had, both of the Said described parts and portions
of land and devised premises, to hold to the Said Julia Van Ness her
heirs and assigns forever, I further give and devise to my said Son
John H. Brush my entire real Estate in the State of Illinois amounting
to Seven Military bounty lots more or less, to his heirs and assigns to
hold to the said John H. Brush his heirs and assigns forever, I
further give and devise to my Said Daughter Caroline E. Brush
her heirs and assigns, all my interest claim title to a tract of
land in the St. Johns County, in the territory of Florida, Situate
on the side of the St. Johns River, and opposite to a place known
by the name of Palatka, called New Buna Vista, or more lately
Orange Point, containing three hundred and fifty Acres, more or
less, to hold to the Said Caroline E. brush, her heirs and assigns
forever, I further give and devise to my Said Son Charles W.
Brush all my interest, claim, title, and interest in and
to certain tracts of land, said to be Situate at, or near a place on
the west side of the St. John River, in Florida Known as
Bryants Point opposite to Old Buna Vista, one of said tracts |
