THIS INDENTURE MADE THE eleventh day of February
in the year of our Lord One thousand eight hundred and twenty
two Between Fernando de la Maza Arredondo and Jose de la Maza
Arredondo of the city of Havanna in the Island of Cuba comprising
the firm of Fernando de la Maza Arredondo and Son of the
City of Havanna Merchants of the first Part and Alexander
M. Muir William Thorne and Noah Jarvis all of the
City and State of New York of the second Part.
Whereas the said Parties of the first part are Seized
and possessed as the sole proprietors thereof of a certain tract
of Land heretofore belonging to his Majesty the King of Spain herein
often particularly described in virtue of a grant thereof made
to them the said parties of the first part by Don Alexandro Ramisez
Intendant of the army Superintendent General, Subdelagate of
the Royal Treasury of the Island of Cuba and the two Floridas
&C,&C, in a certain title executed by the said Don Alexandro
Ramisez in the name of the King and in the exercise of the Power
conferred by the King upon the said Don Alexandro Ramisez,
Sealed with the Royal Seal of his Secretarys department and
countersigned by the Commissary at War Don Pedro Carrhubot
bearing date at Havanna on the twenty Second day of December
One thousand eight hundred and Seventeen and registered in
the book for that purpose under the Charge of the said Carrambot
Secretary of the intendance and Subdelagate Superintendancy
which said title recites in substance, that whereas Don Fernando
de la Maza Arredondo and Son presented a petition in the
aforesaid intendancy dated the twelfth day of November then
last past praying for a gratuitous grant of Land in East
Florida, consisting of four leagues of ground to each point of
the compass reckoned from the establishment of Alachua as a
central point which Petition was by decree of the said
intendant of the same twelfth day of December in the said year
referred to the Captain of Infantry Don Vicente Sebastian Pentado
who returned it on the fifteenth day of the said month with the
requisite explanations; that in consequence thereof by a decree
of the same day the said Petition and report were passed
to the inspection of the Kings Attorney who consented that
the said grant should be made, that in consequence thereof
the said Intendant issued his decree granting to the said
Fernando de la Maza Arredondo and Son in full property
upon certain terms the land for which they had petitioned
