Columbia County Know all men by these presents that I
Light Townsend of the County of Alachua in Said State, for and
in consideration of the natural love and Effection which I have
and do bear for my Son William Townsend of the County of Colum-
bia, aforesaid in Said State and for the love and Effection
which I have for the lawful heirs of his body, and for and in
consideration of the sum of one dollar to me in hand paid at and
before the Sealing and delivery of these presents, the receipts
whereof is hereby acknowledged, hath granted, bargained and by
these presents do freely give, grant and convey unto him (my
Said Son William Townsend and the lawful heirs of his body, the
following described property To wit; One certain Negro man Slave
named Michael about thirty five years of age, also on certain
Negro woman Slave named Mary about thirty years of age, Which
said Negro Slaves as aforesaid I do hereby warrant and forever
defend against myself, my heirs Executors, administrators and
assigns.
To have and to hold the above named Negro Slaves as afore-
said, and I the Said Light Townsend for myself my heirs Execu-
tors, administrators and assigns, Shall and will warrant and for
ever defend the Said given and granted Negro Slaves as afore-
said, against all and every other person or persons whomsoever
unto him my Said William Townsend and the lawful heirs of his
body and to their heirs and assigns forever in fee simple.
In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal
this the thirty first day of October A.D. 1848

Alachua County Be it remembered that on the 31st day of
October A.D.1848 Light Townsend in person appeared before the
Subscriber Robt Youngblood Clerk of the Circuit Court for the
Counties of Alachua and Levy in and for said County and acknow-
ledged that he signed the foregoing deed of gift for the purpose
therein expressed and to the end that
