County of Alachua } This Indenture made and entered into
the third day of January in the year of our Lord one
thousand eight hundred and fifty six between William W.
Adkins party of the first part and Otis J. Chaffer, Mitchell
W. St Amand and Thomas H. Croft of Charleston South
Carolina parties of the second part Witnesseth that for
and in consideration of the sum of two hundred and
twenty eight dollars to the party of the first part in hand
paid by the parties of the second part at the time of executing
this Indenture the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged the
party of the first part hath bargained and sold conveyed
and released unto the parties of the second part their heirs
executors and assigns all that certain tract or parcel of
land laying in the County of Alachua known and descri-
bed as follows to wit North west quarter of section twelve
Range
Township eleven south of^twenty two east to have and to
hold the above granted and described premises to the said
parties of the second part to their executors and assigns and
to their only proper use and behoof in fee simple forever
and I the said William W. Adkins party of the first part for
myself my heirs executors and assigns and administrators
do covenant with the said parties of the second part their heirs
and assigns that the above described premises are free from
all incumbrance made or suffered by me and that I will
and my heirs executors and administrators shall warrant
and defend the same to the said parties of the second part
their heirs and assigns forever against the lawful claims
or demands of all persons whatsoever claiming by, through
or under me. In witness whereof I the said William W. Adkins
have hereunto set my hand and seal on the day and year
first above written.

a Justice of the peace in and for said County William Edwards
one of the subscribing witnesses to the within Indenture who
being duly sworn says that he saw the same signed sealed and
delivered by the party of the first part of the first for the
purposes therein set forth; Sworn to and subscribed this
