further certify that the said Mary Wavasseur*
being examined by me seperate and apart from
her husband acknowledged that she executed
the same freely and voluntarily without any com-
pulsion fear or restraint from her said husband
Witness my hand and seal this thirty first day of
March 1856.

Florida.
           This Indenture made the Twenty fifth day
of March in the year of Our Lord One thousand
eight hundred and fifty six between Giles U. Ellis of
the county of Alachua and said state of the first part
and Nancy L. Townsend of the county of Columbia
& State aforesaid of the second part.
Whereas a marriage by Gods permission is intended
shortly to be had and solemnized between the said
Giles U. Ellis and the said Nancy L. Townsend, and
the said Nancy L. Townsend being at this time entitled
to certain undivided property both real
and personal consisting of lands Negroes & lying
and being in the said county of Columbia in the
state aforesaid which she has elected as dower
in the Estate of her deceased husband the late
William Townsend Esquire of Columbia County
all which reference being had to the records of the
Probate court of said county will more fully and
particularly appear To all which property herein
referred to together with all and singular such 
property real or personal which she now possesses in
her own right, the said Giles U. Ellis does by these
presents relinquish every right title use benefit
or claim that he may or might have to the same
after the said intended marriage.~~~~
And Whereas Also the said Giles U. Ellis hath
given granted bargained, and confirmed and
doth by these presents give, grant bargain and
confirm should the said intended marriage be
solemnized and consummated with the said Nancy L.
Townsend to and for the term of her natural life
a Negro woman named Nice and a Negro man
named Ben together with the increase of said Negroes
to the sole and only use of the said Nancy Townsend
should she so long remain his widow in case she
survives him the said Giles U. Ellis but upon the
