This Indenture made this fifteenth day of January
eighteen hundred and fifty five, Between James Hague of
Alachua County Florida, party of the first part, and Hannah
Eugenia Galpin of Duval County County Florida wife of George
M. Galpin, Witnesseth that Said party of the first part,
in consideration of the Sum of eight hundred dollars, to him in
hand paid by the said party of the Second part, the receipt
whereof is hereby acknowledged, hath bargained and sold, and by
these presents doth bargain and sell unto the said party
Hannah Eugenia, to her Sole and only use, and behoof for ever,
her heirs and assigns, quite free and separate from all control,
liability, and indebtedness of her said Husband, that certain
Negro woman Phillis of black complection and about forty
five years of age, Slave for life To have and to hold the
Said woman Slave Phillis her issue and increase to the
Said Hannah Eugenia Galpin, her sole and only use
as aforesaid, and to her heirs and assigns for ever, and said Slave
Shall not be liable for the debts of her Said Husband, which
may have been heretofore, or shall be hereafter contracted, and the
Said grantor hereby warrants and covenants, that he has full right
and title to the Said woman Slave, and to make absolute sale
and delivery thereof, In Witness Whereof, the said party
of the first part, hath hereunto set his hand and seal, the
day and year first above written.
