who being duly Sworn Says that he Saw Thomas C. Love Sign
the Same, and that the Said Thomas C. Love acknowledged his
Signature to the Same to be genuine for the purposes contained
in Said Deed.

State of Florida } This indenture made this Sixteenth
Alachua County } day of February A.D. 1855 between
Thomas C. Love of said State and County, and
Mathew W. Smith of the Same place, Witnesseth
that the Said Thomas C. Love, for and in consideration
of Five dollars to him in hand paid by the
said Smith the recipt Whereof is hereby ackn
owledged, as well for the better securing the payment
of a certain promissory note, for the Sum of
three hundred and Seven 59/100 Dollars, given and
Signed by the Said Thomas C. Love, to the said Matthew
W. Smith, and due and payable on or before the
first day of January next, ensuing, have granted
bargained Sold and delivered and by these presents
do grant bargain Sell and deliver, unto the
Said Mathew W. Smith his heirs and assigns
one certain Negro Slave, to wit, Tom a boy
thirteen years of age, to have and to hold the said
Slave unto him the said Smith his heirs and assigns
forever, And the Said Thomas C. Love his heirs and
assigns shall and will warrant the said Slave
to be sound of Body & mind and a Slave
for life. The condition of this indenture is such that if the Said
Thomas C. Love his Executors or administrators shall well & Truly pay or
cause to be paid the said promissory note according to the Tenor,
and effect thereof, then the said note as well this indenture Shall
cease and be null and void, Else to remain in full force and
both in law and Equity, Signed Sealed and delivered
this Day and year first above written
