State of Florida } Before me James A. Cooper an acting Justice
Alachua County   } of the Peace in and for said County, came Joseph
D. Colding and after being duly sworn Deposeth and saith that
he saw the parties Signe Seal and deliver the above Instrument for
the purposes there in contained, and that he with Wm T. Shuford
subscribed the same as witnesses. This 3 June 1856

Alachua County   } This Indenture made on the sixteenth
day of May in the year of Lord One thousand Eight hundred
and fifty seven between John Lewis Senr of the first part
and Geo W. Means of the second part both of the State and
County aforesaid, Witnesseth, that for and in consideration
of the sum of Four hundred and Seven dollars to him
in hand paid at and before the sealing and delivery of
hereof, the reciept whereof is hereby acknowledged, the said
party of the first part has given, granted, bargained, sold
& conveyed & by these presents do give grant bargain sell &
convey unto the said party of the second part his heirs and
assigns, the following plantation or parcel of Land, Situate
in the County & State aforesaid in what is generally called
the Orange Creek Settlement and known as the south Quar-
ter of Section thirty five Township ten south, Range twenty
two East, containing in all one hundred and Sixty one 3/100
acres of Land more or less To have & to hold the above gran-
ted & described & Conveyed premises unto the said party of the
second part his heirs & Assigns in fee Simple forever together
with all and singular the improvements, houses, buildings &
appurtenances to the same belonging or in any wise appertain
-ing And the said party of the first part for himself his
heirs, Executors & Administrators covenants & agrees with the
said party of the second part his heirs Executors Adminis
-trators & Assigns that he is seized in fee Simple of the aforegra
nted & conveyed premises, that he has good right to sell and
convey the same to the said party of the second part that
they are free from all encumbrances & that he will & his heirs
Executors & Administrators shall warrant and defend the
same to the said party of the second part, his hiers Executors
Administrators & Assigns forever against the lawful Claims &
demands of all persons.  In Testimony whereof the said
party of the first part has hereunto set his hand & affixed
his Seal on the day and year first above written
