E.C. Brevard To Witte Brothers
            "Mortgage"
Know all men by these presents that I E.C. Brevard
of the County of Alachua in the State of Florida for
and in Consideration of the Sum of Five dollars to me
paid the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged have
bargained and sold and by these presents do bargain
and sell to Witte Brothers of Charleston South Carolina
all my crops of cotton corn and all other crops of
any description whatsoever I have now growing or that
I may grow in the year AD 1882 on my plantation in the
said County or in any other place. The condition of this
sale is such that if I shall by the first day of January
AD 1883 pay to the said Witte brothers all sums of money
I now owe them or may hereafter owe them for any
and all advances of money goods or other things
that they make to me during the said year 1883 (the
meaning of this being to include all my previous indebted
ness to said Witte Brothers as well as what I may here-
after owe them in the year 1883) then the foregoing Contract
of sale to be void otherwise to remain in full force
& Virtue. Witness my hand & Seal this 22d day of July
