Reuben Lewis to Geo K. Broome
            "Mortgage"
State of Florida } This Indenture made and entered into on this 26 day of
Alachua County   } Feby AD 1881 Witnesseth that I Reuben Lewis in Consideration
of the sum of ___ dollars already advanced by and now due to G.K. Broome
by him the said Reuben Lewis the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged
and for the further consideration that the said G.K. Broome shall and
will make such further reasonable amount of advances in provisions merchan=
dise and plantation supplies as may be necessary to enable the said Reuben
Lewis to make harvest and prepare for market his crops of all kinds
during the year AD 1881 such further advances not to Exceed Fifty dollars
and for the further consideration of one dollar in hand paid by these
presents doth grant bargain sell and convey unto the said G.K. Broome
and to his heirs and assigns all the right title interest and claim of
him the said Reuben Lewis his heirs executors and administrators of
in and to all the crops of whatsoever species kind or description now
growing or which may hereafter at any time in the future be planted
grown or gathered by me or for me or for my benefit in or off of
any and all lands in Alachua County Florida until the debt
hereby secured with interest is fully paid also the following described
property to wit: One (1) Sorrel Horse (Stallion) Bought of Jno R. Bevill
aged about 5 years It being understood that the Balance due said
Bevill on said Horse is excepted from operation of this Mortgage
(about $3000) To Have and to Hold all and singular the crops lands and
personal property above bargained and sold unto the said G.K. Broome his
heirs executors administrators and assigns forever; Provided nevertheless that
if the said Reuben Lewis Shall well and truly pay or cause to be
paid unto the said G.K. Broome the full amount of the advances
heretofore made and hereafter to be made with the charges for
commissions and interest on the same then this obligation to be void
else to remain in full force and virtue. And it is hereby further agreed
that all amounts heretofore and hereafter advanced are due and payable
upon delivery of the goods therefor and shall bear interest accordingly
and that this instrument may be enforced at any time at the option
of the said G.K. Broome: and it is hereby further agreed that Should
it become necessary to enforce this instrument by legal proceedings
the said Reuben Lewis will pay therefor all reasonable Attorney's fees and
Changes. In Witness Whereof I have hereunto set my hands and affixed my
