Hodge who being duly sworn says that he signed sealed
and delivered the foregoing instrument of writing for the
uses and purposes as therein contained and  express
ed Sworn to and subscribed Before me this the 24 day

            Lewis H. Dixon To Saml D. Smoke
                        Mortgage
State of Florida }
 Alachua County  } Know all men by these presents that
whereas Lewis H. Dixon of the above State and County is
indebted to Samuel D. Smoke of the said State and County
in the sum of Sixty (6000) dollars which said sum is
covenanted to be paid by a certain promissory note bear
ing date January 10th 1883, and for the said sum of sixty
dollars bearing interest at the rate of   Now therefore to
better secure the payment of said note and interest as
expressed therein do by these presents grant bargain
sell and convey unto the said Samuel D. Smoke heirs and
assigns all my right title interest and claim of in and to
all the crops of whatsoever species kinds or description now
growing or which may hereafter be planted grown or gath
ered by me or for me or for my benefit on or off of any
and all lands in Alachua County Florida also the following
described property to wit: one Buggy To have and to hold
all and singular the crops lands and personal property
above bargained and sold unto the said Samuel D.
Smoke heirs executor administrators and assigns forever
Provided nevertheless that if the said Lewis H. Dixon
should well and truly pay or cause to be paid unto the
said Samuel D. Smith the full amount of said note toge
ther with the interest according to its tenor and effect
then this instrument to void else to remain in full force
and virtue and it is hereby further agreed that should
it become necessary to enforce this instrument by legal
proceedings the said Lewis H. Dixon will pay therefor
all attorneys fees charges and expenses In witness where
of I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal
this 10th day of January AD 1883.
