John C. Carter To Jno J. Barr
                 Mortgage
This Indenture made & entered into this March 3d AD 1883,
between John H. Carter of Alachua County Florida of the first
part and John J. Barr of same State and County of the second
part witnesseth that the party of the first part for and
in consideration of the sum of one Hundred & seventy five
dollars the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged have granted
bargained and sold and by these presents do grant barg
ain sell and convey unto the party of the second part
all that tract of land lying & being in State and County above
mentioned and more fully described as follows beginning
at a point forty chains north of the South East corner
of Lot ten (10) of the Levy Grant and running west four
teen chains to the East boundary line of said Lot ten, thence
north along said Line twenty chains to the point of beginn
ing containing Twenty Eight (28) acres more or less To
have and to hold the same to him the said John J. Barr
of the second part Together with all the improvements
and appurtenances to the same belonging or in any
wise appertaining This Grant is intended as a sec
urity for the payment of one Hundred & seventy five
$17500 in a note of date March 3d 1883 due Jan 1st1884
signed John H. Carter which payment if duly made
will render this grant void and if default be made
in the payment of the same then the party of the sec
ond part his heirs or assigns are hereby authorized
to sell the lands herein granted or so much thereof
as will be necessary to settle amt of note above mention
ed with the cost & expenses allowed by law In witness
whereof the party of the first part has herewith set
his hand and seal this March 3d AD 1883.
