      J.W. Smith and Annie F. Smith to John J. Barr
                          "Mortgage"
State of Florida } This Indenture made and entered into this May 1st
Alachua County   } 1883 between J.W. Smith & Annie F. Smith parties of the
first part and John J. Barr of the second part Witnesseth that the
parties of the first part for and in consideration of the sum of Four
hundred & twenty $42000 Dollars to them in hand paid the receipt of
which is hereby acknowledged have granted bargained & sold
and do hereby grant bargain & sell unto the party of the second part
and hereby conveys unto him the following described real estate To wit
Ten acres of land in Section 31 Township (11) Eleven Range 21 - in
Alachua Co Florida Said land lying on the Public Road to
Evanston - Bounded North by W.T. Shuford's land South by Winecoffs
Land East by John Evans Land West by Thos McCredie To Have and
to Hold the above described land with the improvements &c with all
the right title & interest of the first parties thereto= This Grant is
intended as security for the payment of four hundred & twenty dollars
in one note payable Jan 1st 1884 bearing even date of this indenture
and without interest signed J.W. Smith which payment if duly made
will render this conveyance void and if default shall be made in
the payment of the same then the said party of the second
part his heirs Executors or administrators are hereby authorized to
sell the premises herein granted or so much thereof as will be
necessary to satisfy amt due with all cost & expenses to satisfy the
same In testimony whereof the parties of the first part have
hereunto set their hands & affixed their seals this May 1st AD 1883

Peace in and for above State and County Annie F. Smith Wife of

me that she did sign the foregoing Mortgage made to John
J. Barr by her said husband & herself and for the purposes
therein mentioned Relinquishing all right of Dower to the premises
