or a forfeiture to pay the said $5500 on the 1st day
of December AD 1884 James J. McKinny his heirs or
assigns are hereby duly empowered to make sale of
said Crop on said date to satisfy the amount due
by me to him on the within horse and I do hereby
waive the benefit of the homestead laws of the 
State of Florida binding said instrument as if no
such law existed

  Betsy McLellan To J.W. Coburn
           "Mortgage"
State of Florida }
Alachua County   } Whereas we Betty McLellan and
her husband Patrick McLellan are justly indebted to
J.W. Coburn in the Sum of one hundred and fifty
dollars which said Sum of money is Covenanted to be
paid by one Certain promissory note bearing even
date herewith for the Sum of one hundred and
fifty dollars due and payable on January
1st 1885 and bearing interest at the rate of 10% per
annum from date till paid. And whereas we are
desirous of fully and better securing the payment
of said note and the sum of money mentioned therein
Therefore know all men by these presents that we
Betty McLellan & Patrick McLellan her husband for
and in Consideration of the premises and of one
dollar to us in hand paid have granted bargained
Sold and Conveyed and by these presents do grant
bargain sell and Convey unto the said J.W. Coburn
his heirs and assigns all the following described
