        John J. Thompson to William Edwards
                       "Mortgage"
State of Florida  }
County of Alachua } This Indenture made this December 21st AD 1883
between John J. Thompson party of the first party and William
Edwards party of the second part witnesseth: That the said John J. 
Thompson for and in consideration of the sum of Ten Dollars to him in
hand paid by the said William Edwards as well as for securing the
payment of a note hereinafter described does grant sell alien
and convey unto the said William Edwards his heirs and
assigns a certain lot of land in the town of Gainesville
described as the West Half of the East Half and the West Half
of lot no four Browns Addition to the Town of Gainesville in
the South East Corner of the North West Quarter of Section Five
Township Ten Range Twenty East and South as appears from
the deed of J.B. Brown to T.G.P. Thompson recorded in Deed
Book "H" Alachua County Records Page 288 Containing about
Seven and half acres more or less. To have and to hold the said
piece of land to the said William Edwards his heirs and assigns
for the purposes hereinbelow mentioned. The said John J. Thompson
will and his heirs executors and administrators shall the said
premises to the said William Edwards his heirs executors
administrators and assigns forever warrant and defend. Provided
nevertheless that if the said John J. Thompson his heirs executors
or administrators shall pay unto the said William Edwards his
executors administrators or assigns the amount of a certain
promissory note made by the said John J. Thompson payable to
the said William Edwards or bearers dated December Thirty first
AD 1883 for the sum of One Thousand (1000) Dollars with interest
from date at eight per cent per annum payable Semi Annually
value received said note due the first day of January
AD 1887 together with all reasonable expenses including Attorney's
fees which may be incurred by the said William Edwards
in collecting the same: then this deed as well as the
