On or before September 15, 1884 I James Thompson
of Alachua County State of Florida promise to pay
to Matheson & McMillan (or order) fifteen dollars
Rent for seven and a half acres more or less of land
on what is Known as the "Bucklin Place" in said
State & County and I do hereby agree and Covenant
that this instrument of writing shall be and is a first
Lien and mortgage on all the Crops of Corn Cotton Fod-
der Potatoes &c that I may raise or produce on
said tract or parcel of land during the year AD 1884
for the security of the payment of said rent of
fifteen dollars
