and understanding not under any restraint or in any respect
incompetent to make a will. I also saw Frederick Bruce
and Mita V.N. Hutton and Matilda V.N. Loney the
other subscribing witnesses At the time of such sub-
scription, the said deceased did and the said instrument
so witnessed by her sign their names as witnesses at the
end of said Will and know that they did so at the
request of and in the presence of said decedent

In the matter of proving the last Will and Testament of
Julia A. Van Ness as a Will of Real and Person-
al property

  Mita V.N. Hutton of Baltimore Md being duly
sworn says as a witness in the above intitled matter
and examined on behalf of the applicant to prove
said Will, says: I was well acquainted with Julia
A. Van Ness now Decd. I know the above named decedent
for more than twenty years before her death, the
Subscription of the name of said decedent to the 
instrument now shown to me, and offered for Probate
or her last will and Testament and bearing date
the nineteenth day of August in the year one thousand
eight hundred and eighty six was made by the
decedent at Water Mills New York on the
nineteenth day of August in the year one
thousand eight hundred & eighty six in the
presence of myself and Frederick H. Wright
Frederick Bruce and Matilda V.N. Loney the
other subscribing witnesses At the time of
such subscription the said decedent de-
clared the said instrument as subscribed
