               James S. Gibbs
to and among my nephew Charles Hartridge
Gibbes and Arthur B. M. Gibbes sons of my said
brother, share and share alike, the issue of either
or both if either or both, shall die before the
happening of such contingency to take the same
per stirpes  And in the event of the happening
of the contingency refered to in said section twenty-
nine, to wit: That there should be no decendant of
mine within the period limited by law, to take
any property, I further give & devise and bequeath
the family residence at the Corner of Meeting &
George Streets, in the City of Charleston with all
the pictures, heirlooms, silver, silver plate and ap-
purtenances, as described in section thirteen of My
said Will, to my said nephew Charles Hartridge Gibbes
and Arthur B.M. Gibbes, their heirs and assigns forever
share and share alike and should either or both
die before the happening of such contingency then
the same shall go to and among their issue living
per stirpes
6" I hereby nominate constitute and appoint H.
S. Holmes, as an Executor to my said Will, additional
to these named in section twenty seventh thereof
      In witness whereof I have hereunto set my
      hand and seal this twelvth day of May,
      in year of our Lord eighteen hundred

Signed, sealed, published and declared by the
above named James S. Gibbes in our presence as
and for a Codocil to his Last Will and Testament
who at his request and in his presences and in
the presence of each other, have hereto subscribed
our names as witnesses.

aforesaid being of sound mind, on this 11 day of November,
in the year of our Lord, one thousand eight hundred and
eighty five, do make this my Codocil, hereby confirming my
last Will and Testament made and executed in the thirtieth
