Gibbes and Company, under the following arrangement
The said firm of Gibbes & Company is to hold said two
hundred and thirty shares of the Capital Stock of The Com-
mercial Wharf and Cotton Press Company" as their property
and subject to their risks inseparable from the conduct of
business using said stock as collateral security or otherwise
and in case of need to protect the credit of my old firm
name, or for other good reason they may sell said shares of
stock or any portion thereof, This arrangement is to continue
for the period of three years from the first day of September
in the year of our Lord eighteen hundred and eighty five
to the thirty first day of August in the year of our Lord
eighteen hundred and eighty eight, and in the event of
any hypothecation or sale of said stock for the purpose
aforesaid by the said Gibbes and Company, I bequeath
the same to them instead of the said Kate Gibbes. In case
of the death of the said Kate Gibbes before the delivery
to her of any of the stocks or bonds afore mentioned I
revoke the gift of such stocks or bonds as may not have
been delivered, and the property will there go into my
general estate, I give and bequeath to Susan Wilson
Gibbes, her executors, administrators and assigns (in ad-
dition to any previous legacy) the sum of five hundred
dollars to be paid in cash as soon as possible after my
death, I give and bequeath unto my faithful servant
Cornelius Barnwell (in addition to any previous legacy)
the sum of One hundred Dollars

Signed, sealed, published and declared by the said James
S. Gibbes as and for a Codocil to his Last Will and testament
and to be taken as a part thereof in the presence of us who
in the presence of each other, at his request signed our

I, James S. Gibbes of the City
of Charleston and State aforesaid being of sound mind
on this thirtieth day of November, in the year of our
Lord One thousand eight hundred and eighty five do
make and publish this as a Codocil to my last Will
and Testament, and all Codocils heretofore made by me |
