Present: Honorable W.E. Vincent, Probate Judge for the County
of Charleston
Personally appeared Arthur Lynah, Esq sub-
scribing witness to the annexed instrument of writing pur-
porting to be the first Codocil to the Last Will and Testament
of James S. Gibbes, late of Charleston, deceased, who being
duly sworn, deposeth and sayeth that he was present and
did see the said instrument of writing duly executed by
the said James S. Gibbes. at the time
And deponent further saith that the said James S. Gibbes
at the time of executing the said instrument of writing
was to the best (his) deponents Knowledge and belief of
sound and disposing mind, memory and understanding
and that Arthur Synah (the deponent) and E.H. Sparkman
and John B. Bee, in the presence of each other and of the
said James S. Gibbes, and at his request, signed their
names as witnesses to the due execution of the same
(same) Arthur Lynah
Sworn and subscribed to before me this first day of May, in the
year of Our Lord, one thousand eight hundred and eighty eight.

I, William E. Vincent, Judge of Probate in
and for the County and State aforesaid, do hereby certify that
the within First Codocil to the Last Will and Testament of James
S. Gibbes, deceased was this day admitted to probate in Common
form on the oath of Arthur Synah, one of the subscribing wit-
nesses to the same, and that R.B. Ferris, H.S. Holmes John Haile
and E.H. Sparkman obtained Letters Testamentary
Given under my hand and seal this first day
of May, Eighteen hundred and eighty eight.
