                     Present: Honorable William E. Vincent,
Probate Judge for the County of Charleston
                personally appeared Julian C. Breese, subscribing
witness to the annexed instrument of writing, purporting to be
the second Codocil to the Last Will and Testament of James S.
Gibbes, late of Charleston, deceased, who being duly sworn de-
poseth and saith that he was present and did see the said
instrument of writing duly executed by the said James S.
Gibbes. And deponent further saith that the said James
S. Gibbes, at the time of executing the same, was, to the best
of his Knowledge and beliefs of sound and disposing mind,
memory and understanding. And that Julian C. Breese,
(the deponent) and G.M. Trenholm and Joe Johnson in the
presence of each other and of the said James S. Gibbes and
at his request, signed their named as witnesses to the due
execution of the same.

                         I, William E. Vincent Judge of
Probate in and for the County and State aforesaid, do hereby
Certify that the within second Codicil to the Last Will and Testament
of James S. Gibbes, deceased, was this day admitted to Probate in
Common form on the oath of Julian C. Breese, one of the sub-
scribing witnesses to the same and that R.B. Ferris Esq H.S.
Holmes John Haile and E.H. Sparkman Esq obtained Letters
Testamentary
             Given under my hand and seal this first
             day of May, AD eighteen hundred and eighty eight.
