                     Spring Term A.D. 1898
                     Thursday May 19th 1898

The Court met pursuant to adjournment of yesterday his
Honor W.A. Hocker Judge presiding.

State of Florida }        Syd L. Carter
    vs           } Murder
Gus Reid         }       Robert E. Davis & J.M. Rivers
              And now the Jury empaneled and sworn in the
above stated cause and who retired to consider of their verdict
on yesterday, to wit: J.F. Townsend, Geo B. Evans, J.P. Jones, W.D.
Cauthen, A.J. DaCosta, J.W. Riggs, D.A. Robertson, G.T. Kennard
R.J. Lane, Geo. B. Cellon Maxey Bennett and Geo Gleason come
now into Open Court and rendered the following verdict, to wit:
We the Jury find Gus Reid the defendant guilty of Manslaughter.

   Whereupon the Court appointed N.M. Allred Esq assistant
State Attorney during the remainder of this term of the Court
who was accordingly sworn in as such Assistant by the Clerk
of this Court

      vs         } Grand Larceny
Hall Mitchell &  }
Edward Wideman   }         Evans Haile & B.A. Thrasher
             And now this cause came on to be heard
Syd L. Carter State attorney prosecuting in the name and by
the authority of the State of Florida and the prisoners being in
open Court in their proper persons as well as by their attorneys
Evans Haile and B.A. Thrasher Esqrs were arraigned and
upon their arraignment say they are not guilty and for
good and evil put themselves upon God and the Country
for trial, Whereupon a jury was called and there came
C.N. Merry J.F. Townsend Geo B. Evans James T. Collins J.P. Jones
and L.Klein who where duly empaneled and sworn to well and
truly try the issue between the State of Florida and the defendants
according to the evidence and the Jury aforesaid after hearing
the evidence the argument of Counsel and the charge of the Court
retired to consider of their verdict and after due consideration
thereof they returned into open Court and rendered the following
verdict, to wit: We the Jury find the Defendants Hall Mitchell
and Edward Wideman Guilty of Grand Larceny so say we all
