Gus Reid } Motion to set aside verdict and for a new trial
And now comes the defendant by his attorneys J.M.
Rivers and Robt E. Davis and moves the Court to set aside the
verdict of the Jury herein and to grant him a new trial and now
said motion being submitted to the Court and argued by both parties
and the Court being advised in the premises doth decide and order
that said motion be overruled to which ruling and order of the
Court the defendant by his Attorneys excepts.
It is further ordered by the Court that the defendant be allowed
sixty days to prepare and settle bill of exceptions

And now the prisoner Gus Reid being in Open Court
for sentence was demanded if he had anything to say why the sentence
him
of the law should not be passed upon^saith nothing, whereupon
the Court sentenced the prisoner in Manner and form as follows
to wit: The sentence of the law is that you Gus Reid be impris-
oned by confinement in the State Prison at hard labor for twenty
years.

And now the prisoner George Howard being in
Open Court for sentence was demanded if he had anything to
say why the sentence of the law should not be passed upon him
saith nothing, whereupon the Court sentenced the prisoner in
manner and form as follows, to wit:
The Sentence of the law is that you George Howard be impris-
oned in the County Jail at hard labor for twelve months
In the matter of the Petition of J.D. Matheson Chairman
of the Board of County Commissioners of Alachua Co. Fla for ap-
pointment of a jury of twelve men to assess damages for opening a
road thro lands of Mrs Alice Richbourg, A.C. Steenburg and others.
The Petition of J.D. Matheson in the above styled and
described cause coming on to be heard this day, it is ordered that
O.P. Cannon C.w. McDonald J.S. Crown Sr D.W.L. Barton
J.H. Crown Wm Watts Sr J.S. Crown Jr F.C. Crown Jere Gregg
Wash West, Harrison Lynch and J.B. Mixson be and are hereby
appointed a jury of twelve men who are residents in the vicinity of
