132 I, the undersignned Consul of the United States
of America for the Port of Liverpool and its dependencies
do certify and make known to whom these presents shall
come that on the day of the date hereof before me personally
appeared Mrs Margaret Sarah C. Lawton wife of Joseph
Lawton of Charleston to my satisfaction proved to be the
person described in and who executed the annexed re-
nunciation of dower and being by me examined privately
separately and apart from her husband acknowledged
the same to be her act and deed; and she did at the
same time acknowledge that the said relinquishment
and renunciation of dower was and is made freely and
voluntarily and without any compulsion, constraint ap=
prehension or fear of or from her said husband and
the said acknowledgement was made in the presence
of Samuel Pearce and Joseph Battersby who have
subscribed their names as witnesses: and at the same
time came the said Joseph Battersby who being duly
sworn upon the Holy Gospels did depose and say
that he knew the person then present making the said
acknowledgement to be the individual described in and
who executed the said relinquishment, which to me
is satisfactory proof
Given under my hand and seal
