Deed Charles L. Wilson Shff &C to George R. Fairbanks
This indenture made this 2nd day of June in the year of
our Lord One thousand Eight hundred and fifty one between Charles
L. Wilson, Sheriff and and exofficio Assessor and Tax Collector in and for
the County of Alachua and State of Florida, party of the first part and
George R. Fairbanks of St. Johns County, State of Florida party of the second
part to these presents. Witnesseth that whereas under and by virtue of the
possession of the several Acts of the General Assembly of the State
Florida, enacted for the purpose of raising a revenue for the State of
Florida and defining the duties of the Assessor and Collector thereof
the said party of the first part did duly assess for Taxes for the year
One thousand Eight hundred Fifty- as well for the Taxes by law
due and payable to the State of Florida as well also as the County
of Alachua when the following lands situate and being within said
County To Wit The lands known as the Atkins & Clark Grant
containing Six thousand acres, more or less, lying and being in
Township Seven and Eight Ranges 17&18 and bounded as follows
North & West by vacant lands East & South by vacant lands and
lands of James Dell decsd and situated between Newnansville and
the Natural bridge of the Santa Fee River covering portions of Section
19 Range 18, Sect 24&13, Range 17 west & Sect 4, 33, 32, 29, 19 in Range
18 & Sect 24, 13 & 12 R 17 and about two miles from Newnansville
and which said lands were not returned by any person to the Assessor
of said county as required by law and by virtue of which Said
Omission to return the Same the Said lands became liable to the
double Taxed And whereas the taxes To assessor upon the Said lands
were not paid by any Person to the Collector of taxes within the time
And in the manner required by law for the Year One thousand
Eight hundred And fifty aforesaid, And whereas the Said Charles L.
Wilson Sheriff & Exofficio Tax Collector as aforesaid And Party of the
first part hereto did in Consequence of such failure And neglect
to pay the taxes so asessed as aforesaid upon the afor described lands
to the Tax Collector aforsaid proceed to levy upon the Same for the
amt of taxes so due And owing to the State of Florida and County
of Alachua aforesaid and Made public advertisement of the same
by publication in a public newspaper printed nearest to the place
of sale for the terms of Six months pursuant to the Statute in such
case made and provided or so much thereof as should be necessary
to Satisfy the state and county tax thereof together with all necessary
expenses attending the Sale thereof And in And by Said public
notice did fix the day and the date of these presents to wit the
Second day of June AD 1857. before the Court House in the Town
of Newnansville in Said County being the first Monday in
Said month of June as the time and place of Said Sale
And Whereas in pursuance of Said law and
notice of Sale Said Taxes and expenses being and remaining
due and unpaid the Said Party of the first Part Tax Collector
as aforsaid upon the day of the date of these presents before the
Court House Door in the Town of Newnansville aforesaid provided
to offer for Sale the Said Lands in lots of forty acres Each con-
secutively untill the whole quantity of the Same was sold it being
requisite and necessary to sell all of Said Lands in order to
