personally came McRa Brevard, who being duly sworn says
that he signed the foregoing instrument of writing as a witness
for the purpose therein set forth, and that he signed the same

Alachua County  } This Indenture made this thirtieth day of March
in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty four
Between Thomas E. Haile of the County and State aforesaid, and
Edward Haile of the State of South Carolina, Witnesseth
note bearing date the eighteenth day of March in the year of our
Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty four, hath promised to
pay Messrs I. and J.D. Kirkpatrick or order the sum of four thousand
two hundred and thirty seven 17/100 dollars for value received, and which
said promissory note has at the request and for the only accomodation
of the said Thomas E. Haile been endorsed by the said Edward
Haile being desirous to save, keep harmless and indemnified the
said Edward Haile of and from all responsibility as endorser as
as aforesaid, Now this Indenture Witnesseth that he said
Thomas E. Haile, as well for and in consideration of securing
the said Edward Haile from the payment of the note aforesaid
as the sum of one dollar to him in hand paid by the said
Edward Haile, at and before the sealing and delivery of these
presents & the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, hath bargained,
sold, released, conveyed and confirmed, and by these presents
doth bargain, sell, release, convey and confirm unto the said
Edward Haile his heirs, Executors, Administrators, and assigns,
and all and every the Negro Slaves herein after named, to wit,
Ephraim, Hetty, Haily, Fortune, Rainy, Ephraim Jr, Ned, Aggy,
Allen, Nancy, Guss, Amos, Tom, Morris, Old Buck, Sarah
Kitty, Emma, Abraham, and Hannah, together with the
future issue of the said female Slaves, to have and to
hold the said Negro Slaves aforesaid, with the issue of
the said female Slaves to him the said Edward Haile
