us in hand paid, at and before the ensealing and delivery of these presents
L L Whitaker of the District and State aforesaid, and also in consideration of
premises, have bargained, sold, and delivered, and by these presents do bargain,
Sell, and deliver unto the said L L Whitaker the following named Slaves,
to wit; Lewis, Easter, Mose, Hetty, Tom, Dolly, Grace, Fanny, Janeth,
                      Relicas, Sally, Rose, Lawson, Lavila, Patsy, 
Mose, Henry, Patsy, Sarah, Lucy, Phillis, Columbus, Jerry, Isaac, Claricy, 
Cresy, Aaron, Emiline, Amy, Jinny, Willis, Epsy, also ten shares of the
capital Stock of the Bank of Camden South Carolina, To have and to
hold the said Slaves with the future issue and increase of them, and the said
Shares of the said Bank, to the said L. Whitaker, in the Special Trust
and Confidence, nevertheless, that he the said L. Whitaker, will permit the
said Slaves with their increase to go into the possession of the said
Mary Whitaker Haile, so that she may enjoy the possession, use
and profits of them and not in any way to be liable to the disposal or for the
debts of her present or any future Husband and in trust that he will hold
the said Shares of the said Bank for the benefit of the said Mary Whitaker
Haile, and pay to her without any further accountability on his part,
the profits and dividends arising from the same as often as they may be
declared, and in further trust and confidence that he the said L. L. Whitaker
in case the said Mary Whitaker Haile shall die without issue, will hold
the said Slaves with future issue and increase of them, and also the said
Shares of the Capital Stock of the Bank of Camden South Caro
Carolina, to be transfered to such person or persons as may be entitled
thereto under the said last Will and testament of John Chesnut deceased
or to such person as may be legally entitled.
            In Witness whereof, we have hereunto seperately set our
hands and seals this ninth day of February in the year A.D. 1852

   We Edward Haile, and Mary W. Haile his wife, do hereby acknowledge
the we have received the Slaves mentioned in this deed, and hold
these subject to the conditions & provisions of said Deed Feby 9th 1852

Kershaw District} Before me personally appeared James Chesnut Jr
and made oath, that he saw James Chesnut Snr and Thomas
Whitaker Executors as aforesaid, Sign, Seal and deliver the above
mentioned Deed of Trust to L.L. Whitaker for the uses and purposes therein
mentioned, and that he with C. Haile in the presence of each other
witnessed the due execution thereof      }
