Personally appeared before me S.W. Burnett a Justice of the Peace
in and for Alachua County State of Florida        Clark to me well
known to be the person who executed the above relinquishment of Dower
and acknowledged that she had executed the same freely and volunt-
arily and without any compulsion constraint apprehension or fear
of or from her said husband, and I certify that said acknowledge-
ment was made separate and apart from her husband Wm D.
Clark.

State of Florida }
Alachua County   } This Indenture made on the tenth day of
November in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and
fifty six between Alexander Matheson of the first part & his wife Harriet
Mary Matheson of the second part both of the County and State aforesaid
Witnesseth, That Whereas the said party of the first part is lawfully seized
and exposed possessed of the property hereinafter described and whereas
also he is desirous of securing to his wife the said party of the second
part a competency out of his property; Know yea therefore, that
I the said party of the first part, for and in consideration of the
natural love and affection which I have and bear for and to my
said wife as well as for the consideration above mentioned have
bargained, sold, and conveyed and delivered and by these presents
do so bargain, sell, convey and deliver to my said wife the party
of the second part aforesaid, the following named and described
Negro Slaves, Viz; Lewis about forty years old, his wife Dolly about
forty five years old and his son Jim about fourteen years
old, her daughter Mary about eleven years old, her daughter
Sill about nine years old, her daughter Belly about seven
years old, and her son Lewis about five years old; Bill
about forty years old Aaron about thirty years old, Hesekiah
about fifty years old, Rachel about forty years old, Betsy
about twenty five years old, her daughter Henryetta about
nine years old and her son Edward about five years old
Nanny about eighteen years old.
                                To have and to hold the above
described and conveyed Negro Slaves, unto the said party of the
second part and the heirs of her body, lawfully begotten by the
said party of the first part forever, free from all control of the
said party of the first part and in no wise subject to any con-
tract, or debts which the said party of the first part may enter
into or contract or be liable for The said negro slaves together with
the issue further issue and increase of the female portion thereof as
well as the profits arising from their labors and service to belong
& exclusively to the said party of the second part during her covesture
with the said party of the first part to be held by the said party of
the second part for the use and benefit of such child or children
