This agreement made and entered into
this the 28th day of July AD 1866, between F.A.L. Cassidy of the
County of Alachua and State of Florida, of the first part, and
Lemuel Wilson, and Stephen Bryan, of the Same County and State
of the Second part, Witnesseth, That whereas the said party
of the first part, is desirous of proceeding hence to the City of
New York, for the purpose of preparing and filing the necessary
papers, models &c in the patent office in Washington, in order
to obtain a patent for a certain invention to be called a "Cotton
Packer" to be used for the purpose of Packing both long and
Short Staple Cotton; which Said "Cotton Packer" consist of a frame
and certain wheels &c and of a cylinder or case, in which to pack
the Cotton, Now it is understood and agreed between the parties
to this agreement, that the parties of the Second part, are to fur
-nish the party of the first part (the inventor) with an amount
of Money Sufficient to enable him to go to New York, and to
defray his necessary and reasonable expences for board lodging
&c while there engaged, on carrying out the object of his said
visit, and also, to furnish him from time to time, with the
funds necessary to pay all expences attendant upon the procuring
of said defendant, In Consideration of which Said Services
rendered by the parties of the Second part, the party of the first
part agrees, and hereby pledges himself to assign and Set over
to the parties of the Second part, their heirs or assigns, one half
interest in his patent right (if he Should) Succeed in obtaining
a patent for his said invention together with any and all improve
=ments he may hereafter make at any time in Said invention or
patent for the full term of said patent, in and to, the following
States, Viz: South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, and Alabama
and no others - It is further agreed between the parties hereunto
that in Case the said parties of the Second part, Should
at any time hereafter, decline to furnish any more funds for
the purposes above Stated, they Shall have the right to do so,
and the party of the first part Shall have the right to make
any further investment he may choose in his said invention, and
to have the exclusive right in the Same, upon his refunding to the
