forty acres except certain portions or parcels thereof amoun
ting in all to one hundred and forty acres which portion
so reserved and excepted from this sale are described
as follows - Seventy acres of the south west part or por
tion of the south west quarter section which was re-
served by Edward Haile to and for himself in a
certain deed made by him to the said Asahel G. Darwin
dated November 11th 1871 Forty acres which is situated
in the south west portion of the north west quarter
which did belong and was conveyed by the said Edward
Haile to one Thomas E. Haile and on which the said
Thomas E. Haile has a house and other improvements
and which said lot or portion has since been conveyed
to the said Edward Haile by the assignee in Bank
ruptcy of the said Thomas E Haile Also Twenty
acres which the said Edward Haile conveyed by
deed to Thomas W. Chesnut on which the said Ches
nut has a residence which he now occupies which
tract is in the north central portion of the aforesaid
section and has been duly surveyed and laid off
Also ten acres near the center of said section which the said
Edward Haile made a gift of to William Watts a colored
man and on which he has a small dwelling & other im-
provements & on which he resides & which the said Edward
Haile reserves the priviledge to have surveyed and laid
off hereafter leaving a balance of Five hundred acres
on which the residence is situated & other improvements
which it is intended to hereby convey to the said Helen
I. Cortis Together with all and singular the tenements
hereditaments and appurtenances thereunto belonging or
in anywise appertaining and the reversion and revers
ions remainder and remainders rents issues and profits
thereof And also all the estate right title interest dower
and right of dower property possession claim and demand
whatsoever as well in law as in equity of the said party
of the first part of in and to the same and every part
and parcel thereof with the appurtenances, To have
and to hold the above granted bargained and described
premises with the appurtenances unto the said party of the
second part her heirs and assigns to her or their own proper
use benefit and behoof forever And the said Asahel
G. Darwin for himself his heirs and assigns that the
said Asahel G. Darwin at the time of the sealing and
delivery of these presents is lawfully seized in his own
right of a good absolute and indefeaseable estate
of inheritance in fee simple of and in all and
