Know all Men by these Presents,
That I Brig. General O.O. Howard U.S.A. Commissioner of
the Bureau of Refugees, Freedmen and Abandoned Lands.
for and on behalf of the United States of America, party
of the first part, by authority of the Secretary of war, do
hereby Surrender and transfer to Isaac Davis, Johnson Chestnut
John Bullard Thomas Dawkins Edward Dreyer Trustees party
of the Second part (Subject to the condition hereinafter
Stated) the frame building 57 1/2 & 53 1/2 ft. erected for educational
purposes by the Bureau of Refugees, Freedmen and
Abandoned Lands, or carried on the property return of the
Said Bureau, on Certain real estate Situated in the
State of Florida --- owned by Said trustees and held
by them for educational purposes and described as follows viz:
Lot numbered thirteen (13) in Brushes Extension of
Gainesville Alachua County, Florida.
This conveyance is made on the express condition that the
Building above described or the proceeds of the rental or Sale
thereof, Shall be perpetually devoted to educational purposes,
and that pupils Shall never be excluded therefrom, or from
the benefits arising from the rental or Sale
thereof on account of race, or previous condition of servitude,
John Bullard And the Said Isaac Davis, Johnson Chestnut
Thomas Dawkins and Edward Dryer Trustees do hereby
accept Such building on the conditions above Stated, and do guarantee
the use thereof, or of the proceeds of the rental or Sale thereof for the pur=
pose Stated in Said Conditions.
In Witness whereof the Said party of the first and Second parts
have hereunto Set their hands and seals this Twenty fifth
day of August A.D. 1870
