Sheriffs Deed
State of Florida }
County of Alachua } This Indenture made this second
day of October AD 1871 between George L. Barnes Sheriff
of said County of the first Part and James B. Brown
of the County of Alachua State of Florida of the sec=
ond part Witnesseth: That whereas by virtue of a writ
of Fieri Facias issued out of the Circuit Court for
Said County and to him the said Sheriff directed he was
Commanded That of the goods and chattles lands
and tenements of John O. Cosby Cornelius Rain Jr and
William Strickland he cause to be made the sum of
($719.00) Seven hundred & nineteen Dollars with interest there=
on together with cost of suit which George W. Means Administrator
lately on the 22nd day of November AD 1869 recovered in our
Circuit Court against Cosby Rain and Strickland
and whereas I George L. Barnes as Sheriff as afore
said by virtue of said writ and pursuant to the
Statute did on the 30th day of August AD 1871 levy upon
and seize the property hereinafter described and did
by virtue of said writs and pursuant to the statutes in
such case made and provided duly advertise the
said property for sale on the 2nd day of October AD 1871
and did on that day sell the same at public Auction
according to law to James B. Brown for the sum of Five
hundred dollars being the highest for the same.
Now Therefore Know Ye, that I the said George L. Barnes as
Sheriff as aforesaid by virtue of the said writs and of
the Statutes in such cases made and provided for
and in consideration of said sum of $500.00
dollars to me in hand paid by the said James B. Brown
party of the second part have granted bargained and
sold and by these presents do grant bargain and sell
unto the said James B. Brown party of the second part
his heirs and assigns forever all the following property
to wit The right title & interest of William Strickland
(the same being an undivided half interest) in and to
Sections nine (9) and sixteen (16) Township ten (10) South
Range Twenty (20) East Together with all the improvements
therein together with all the rights titles interests and equities
which the said William Strickland had of in or to
the same To have and to hold as fully as I the said
George L. Barnes as Sheriff as aforesaid might could or
ought to sell and convey the same
Given under my hand and seal this the second day of
October AD 1871
