This Indenture made the Eighteenth day of May in
the year one thousand eight hundred and seventy two
Between Helen I. Cortis wife of Thomas T. Cortis and
the said Thomas T. Cortis of East New York in the
County of Kings and State of New York parties of
the first part and John C. Smith of the city of Brook
lyn party of the second part Witnesseth That the
said parties of the first part for and in consideration
of the sum of Twelve thousand dollars lawful
money of the United States of America, to them in
hand paid by the said party of the second part
at or before the ensealing and delivery of these
presents, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged
and the said party of the second part his heirs
executors and administrators forever released and
discharged from the same by these presents have
granted bargained sold aliened remised released
conveyed and confirmed and by these presents
Do grant bargain sell alien remise release con
vey and confirm unto the said party of the seco
cond part and to his heirs and assigns forever
All that certain tract or parcel of land lying and being in the
County of Alachua State of Florida and being a portion of what
is known and designated as the Arredondo Grant and described
as follows: Section number Twenty nine Township Ten in Range
Nineteen containing Six hundred and forty acres Except Certain
portions or parcels thereof amounting in all to one hundred
and forty acres which portion so reserved and Excepted from this Sale
are described as follows: Seventy acres of the South west part or portion
of the South west Quarter Section which was reserved by Edward Haile
to himself in a Certain Deed made by him to Asahel G. Darwin
dated November 11th 1871: Forty acres which are Situated in the
Northwest portion of the Northwest quarter which did belong to
and was conveyed by the said Edward Haile to one Thomas E. Haile
and on which the said Thomas E. Haile has a house and other
improvements and which said Lot or portion has Since been
Conveyed to the said Edward Haile by the assignee in Bankrupt
cy of the said Thomas E. Haile also Twenty acres which the said
Edward Haile conveyed by Deed to Thomas W. Chesnut on which
the Said Chestnut has a residence which he now occupies
which tract is in the North Central portion of the aforesaid
Section and has been duly Surveyed and laid off. Also ten
acres near the center of the said Section which the said Edward
Haile made a gift of to William Watts a colored man and on
which he has a Small dwelling and on which he resides and
which the said Edward Haile has reserved the privilege to have
Surveyed and laid off hereafter leaving a Balance of five
hundred acres on which the residence formerly of said Edward
Haile is Situated & other improvements which are hereby intended
