Under an indenture dated the     day of    1869 and
sealed with the seals of S.McGowan and L.J. Patterson, we the
said L.J. Patterson and Hannah M. Patterson, his wife, jointly
and severally, do hereby freely nominate and appoint Wm H. Parker
Esq to be trustee
        Witness our hands and seals this 17th day of January 1873

            The State of South Carolina
   Know all men by these presents that I, Samuel McGowan of
Abbeville the State aforesaid, for and in consideration of the
sum of ten dollars to me in hand paid and for diverse other
consideration, good and valuable, by me received, have grant
ed, bargained, sold, released and conveyed, transferred, as
signed and delivered, and, by these presents, do grant, bargain
sell, release and convey, transfer, assign and deliver to William
Henry Parker of Abbeville aforesaid, attorney at law, who is
trustee appointed by both Lewis J. Patterson and Hannah M.
Patterson his wife, according to the promise of one in
denture, sealed with the seals me Samuel McGowan, 
and the said Lewis J. Patterson dated     day of
      1869, all the property-, real and personal
hereinafter described and conveyed, to wit: twelve tracts
of land

1  A tract containing eleven hundred acres more or 
less, in the County aforesaid, twenty miles from Lancaster
Court House two miles from Liberty Hill, in Kershaw County, State
aforesaid, adjoining lands of the Estate of John Perry Wylie
Patterson and others; which tract was on the first day of
February 1869, sold as the property of James S. Thompson,
by J.P.M. Epping Marshal of United States for the district of
South Carolina, to me, the said Samuel McGowan, and by said
Marshal to me conveyed, under a writ of fieri facias issued to
enforce a judgment rendered in the circuit court of the United
States, in the case of Harriet Harrison, plaintiff vs J.S.
Thompson and L.J. Patterson, defendants, at the time
