To all whom these presents shall come I Ducan L. Clinch
Colonel of the Army of the United States send Greeting -
Whereas I the said Ducan L. Clinch in and by my
two certain Bonds bearing even date herewith am
held and firmly bound jointly and severally with
Joseph Lawton and Charles Lawton trading together at
Charleston in the State of South Carolina under the
style and firm of J&C Lawton unto John L Engle
Lieutenant in the Army of the United States Administrator of
the Estate of F.P. Fatio in the several penal sums
of three thousand one hundred and fifty dollars each
with several conditions one for the payment of fifteen hun
dred dollars and seventy five dollars with interest at seven
per cent from the date thereof on or before the twelfth day
of May which will be in the year one thousand eight hun
dred and thirty five and the other for the payment
of a like sum of fifteen hundred and seventy Dollars
with interest at seven per cent from the date thereof
the interest payable anually and the said principal
sum with the interest then due thereon on or before the
twelfth day of May which will be in the year one thou
sand eight hundred and thirty six which said bonds
are given by me for the credit part of the purchase
money of the Negro slaves herein after named Now know ye
that I the said Ducan L. Clinch for the better securing
the payment of the said bonds and the sums of money there
in mentioned unto the said John L. Engle his heirs exe
cutors administrators or assigns together with interest
according to the true intent and meaning of the said
bonds have bargained and sold and by these presents
do bargain and sell and in open market
deliver unto the said John L Engle the twenty one
Negro Negro slaves named as follows (to wit)
Adam, Frank and Dolly his wife and their children |
