far short of losses sustained by the said Priest in 
the late disastrous times with the Hostile Indians and 
further saith not

Alachua County		Personally came before me Bennett 
M. Dell and after being duly says that he has for 
many years last past been acquainted with Capt. G. 
Priest and from Close intamacy  he believes said 
Priest to be a man of Upright life in all his walks 
in life and that he with a Company of men on the 
evening of the 6th day of December 1835 in of hostile 
Indians in their County came near the dwelling house of 
Captain Gabriel Priest on the Wacahootia hammock 
in their County and then and there discovered the 
dwelling home and other houses all on fire and 
advancing within two hundred paces of said 
consuming building, and deponent having veiwed
a number of his Company declared they saw a 
number of Indians around the consuming buil
dings and this deponent having viewed this exhibit 
as charges of said Priest.  Against the United States 
for losses sustained by the hostile Indians and 
believe the said Charges to be just and 
reasonable and ought to be allowed and further 
saith not
