This indenture made the twelfth day of August in the
year One thousand eight hundred and forty, Between
Archibald McNeill of Alachua county in the Territory of
Florida and his wife of the first part and George Field
president of the Southern Life Insurance Company of the second
part ___ Whereas the said Arch. McNeill is justly indebted
to the said party of the second part, in the sum of Three thousand
One Hundred and Eighty two Dollars Current money of the United
States of America, Secured to be paid in and by a certain Bond or
Writing Obligatory bearing even date herewith executed by the party
of the first part, as by said Bond or Writing Obligatory, reference
being thereto had will more fully appear ____
Now this indenture Witnesseth that the said party of
the first part, for the more perfect security of the payment of the said
money, according to the true interest and meaning thereof, and in
consideration of one Dollar in hand paid, at and before the ensealing
and delivery of these presents, hath granted, bargained, sold, Aliened,
released, conveyed and confirmed, and by these presents, do grant
Bargain, Sell, alien, release, convey and Confirm, unto the said party
of the second part, and to his successors in office and assigns forever, all
those certain Slaves of him the said Archibald McNeill following to wit,
