Know all men by these presents that I Llewellyn 
Gilliland of the Territory of Florida and County of Alachua 
for and in consideration of the sum of four Hundred dollars, 
paid  to me by Augustus Steele of Tampa the receipt 
whereof I hereby acknowledge, do hereby give grant bargain 
sell & convey unto the said Augustus Steele his heirs and 
assigns forever a certain Negro Woman named Malissa aged 
about Seventeen years.  To have and to hold the said Negro woman 
to the said Augustus Steele his heirs and assigns to his & their 
use & behoof forever hereby warranting & defending the said Negro 
woman to the said Augustus Steele his heirs and assigns forever.-- 
Against the lawful claims of all persons whatsoever.  Provided 
Nevertheless that if I the said Llewellen Gilliland my heirs Executors 
or administrators shall well and truly pay or cause to be paid 
to the said Augustus Steele on or before the first day of march One 
Thousand Eight hundred & Thirty four the sum of Three hundred 
and ninety seven dollars and seventy five cents - then the above 
shall be null & void otherwise remain in full force and virtue
