  Know all men by these presents that I Gad Humphreys of 
the County of Alachua in the territory of Florida for the consideration 
of Six hundred dollars received to my full satisfaction of -- 
Joseph L. Smith of the City of St Augustine in east Florida 
Do give bargain sell and deliver and by these presents have 
given bargained, sold and delivered into the possession of 
the said Joseph L. Smith the five Negro Slaves bearing the 
description which follows to wit   Ansel aged about 
Twenty Two years    of the value of three hundred dollars
Joe aged Twenty four years of the value of four hundred
dolars Andrew aged Twenty Two years of the avlue of three
hundred dollars Bob aged Twelve years of the value of
Two Hundred dollars Toney aged about Eighteen years Joe aged about 
Twenty four years Andrew aged about Twenty Two years and Bob aged 
about thirteen years.  All of the said Negro Slaves bring of the value of 
One Thousand Dollars to have and to hold the said Slaves to him 
the said Joseph L. Smith and to his heirs and Executors administrators 
and assigns forever to his and their own proper use and behoof
	And the said Gad Humphreys do by these presents bind 
myself my heirs Executors and administrators forever to warrant 
and defend the said five Negro Slaves bargained sold and de
livered as above written unto the said Joseph L. Smith and 
unto his heirs Executors administrators and assigns against all 
claims of whatsoever name or nature
		Provided Nevertheless If I the said Gad Humphreys 
my heirs Executor or administrators shall well and truly pay the 
said Joseph L. Smith his heirs Executors administrators or assigns 
a certain promissory note in Writing by me the said Gad Humphreys 
well executed and delivered bearing even date with these presents 
for the sum of six hundred dollars lawful money of the United 
States for value received payable to said Joseph L. Smith or to 
his order on or before the Twenty Seventh day of April AD 
1834 with Ten per cent interest after the said note shall 
become due according to the tenor and true intent and
