Proposed Charter of the Sons and Daughters of Light.
                    Articles of Incorporation.
     To whom it may concern take notice, that the
undersigned will make application before the Hon. J.T.
Wells, Judge of the Circuit Court for the Eighth Judicial
Circuit of Florida, on the 17th day of May, 1907, at
the Court House of Gainesville, Florida, or wherever
the said Judge shall be for an order incorporating the
Sons and Daughters of Light, under the following
articles of incorporation.
          Articles of incorporation:
1st. - We, J.W. Washington, T.J. Hamilton, A.J. Reddick,
Louise Lucy, L. Hamilton and M.L. Washington, and
our societies and subscribers hereby organize ourselves
into a Fraternal Society, not for the profit under the
following articles of incorporation, to wit:
2nd.  The name of this corporation shall be "Sons and
Daughters of Light" and the place where it is to be
located is at Newberry, Florida.
3-  The general nature of the object of the corporation shall
be to organize other socities at other places with the
same rights, power, and privileges that this society shall
have, and to issue to their charter rights to exist and
maintain their organization at such points as
shall be designated by the Worthy Master of this society
and to build up and maintain and encourage the
highest moral standard of the Negro Race, and to
condemn and discourage the crimes against the
unwritten law, and to care for the sick and bury the
dead belonging to this Society, but that the same shall
not be used for profit or gain.
4-  The members of this society shall be admitted only
upon payment of $2.00 instalation fee and the taking
of the solemn pledge, to keep the secrets of the order in-
violet and to protect and defend its institution as
well as the Constitution and By-Laws of the United
States.
5-  This corporation shall exist for a term of ninety
nine (99) years, the names and residence of the
