NOTICE OF APPLICATION FOR CHARTER.
Notice is hereby given that on the 21st day of July 1910 the undersigned
will apply to the Judge of the Circuit Couty of Alachua County Florida for the
granting to them and their associates of a Charter of a corporation not for
profit to be called the Southern States Protective Association the porposed
Charter of which being set forth at length following their signatures below:

PROPOSED CHARTER OF THE SOUTHERN STATES PROTECTIVE ASSOCIATION.
Article 1. Name and Location.
The name of the association shall be The Southern States Protective Association
The location of the Home Office shall be Gainesville, Florida but branches thereof
may be established at any other Place or places.
Article 11. General Nature of Objects.
The object of the corporation shall be the association of the subscribers,
their associates and successors into a fraternal and charatble order and organi-
zation and the accumulation of funds by assessments against its members for
their own aid relief and protection and aid of their defpendents in the event
of the death of the members and for chartitable purposes and the formation of a
lodge system working under a grand lodge for the aforesaid purposes and objects.
Article lll. Membership and Admission.
A member of the association must believe in the existence of a Sumpreme Being,
between the age of eighteen years and fifty five years in good health have a
an occupation and possess such other qualifications as may be required by the
by laws of the order. Applications for membership must be in writing and shall
set forth the foregoing requirements and shall be passed upon in a manner to be
prescribed by the bylaws.
Article lV. Term of Existence.
The corporation to exist for the term of ninerty nine years.
Article V Subscribers.
The subscribers and their places of residence are:
A. R. Jones, R.E. Lartigue, J.B. Corbett and C.A. Salley of Gainesville, Florida
and D.R. Kline of Rockford Illinois.
Article Vl. Officers.
The affairs of the corporation sall be managed by a President, a Vice President
a secretary and a treasurer (the officer of secretary and of treasurer being
capable of being held by one and the same person) and a Board of Directors to be
composed of said officers and such subordinate officers and assistants and
organizers as they may appoint, including lodge officers to ne selected or desig-
nated in a manner to be provied in the bylaws. Their election or appointment shall
be held or made annually at the meetings of the corporation which meeting shall
be at the same time and place and concurrent with the meetings of the Grand Lodge.
Article Vll. Temporary Officers.
Until the first election or appointment of the officers or until their successors
are appointed or elected and qualified the following officers shall manage the
affairs of the association: President R.E. Lartigue, Vice President, D.R. Kline,
Secretary and Treasurer, A.R. Jones and they shall compose the temporary Board of |
