vs } Indicted for Stealing Slaves
James J. Kennard }
} James J. Kennard late of the County
of Alachua who stands indicted for stealing slaves
was led to the bar &c and on motion of the Solicitor for
the State and for reasons appearing to the Court the
trial of the said indictment is deferred until the
next term, and thereupon said James J. Ken-
nard is remanded to the custody of the Sheriff
and Jailer of this County Court, and it appearing
that there is not a sufficient jail or place of
safe keeping of said James J. Kennard
indicted as aforesaid in said County of Alachua
It is ordered that the Sheriff of Alachua do con-
vey the said James J. Kennard to the jail of
the County of Columbia Florida, and deliver
him into the custody of the Jailer of said
County, and that the jailer and Sheriff of said
County of Columbia, do receive the said James
J. Kennard unto the said County jail, and
Keep him the said James J. Kennard
to answer the said Indictment, until the
further order of this Court

Isaac J. Carter on this
motion is made defendant in this suit in cause
of Richard Roe, And thereupon in his proper
person he comes and defends the force & injury
when &c and saith that he can not gainsay the
plaintiffs action, nor but that he is guilty of the
trespass and ejectment in the dedication sup-
posed, in manner and form as the Plaintiff against
him has complained, and the parties agree
that the plaintiff hath sustained damages
by occasion thereof to one cent besides his costs
Therefore it is considered by the Court that |
