The Court met pursuant to adjournment, Present Judge Forward
The State of Florida}
vs } convicted of Manslaughter
James Tucker }
} James Tucker who stands convicted of
Manslaughter was again led to the bar in custody of the Sheriff
and jailer of this court and thereupon it being demanded of him
if any thing he had or Know to say why the court to judgment
and execution against him of and upon the premises, should not
proceed said he had nothing
Therefore it is considered by the court that the said James
Tucker be imprisoned in the Common jail in and for the
County of Marion, there being no safe jail in the County of
Alachua for the term of four months from the twelfth day
of December eighteen hundred and fifty six inclusive to be
fully completed and ended the period by the jurors in
their verdict ascertained, and it is further considered that
the State of Florida do recover of and from the said James
Tucker the sum of Five hundred dollars the sum by
the jurors in their verdict assessed as fine aforesaid
and costs of this prosecution and that he do stand committed
until the fine and costs are paid - And thereupon
the said James Tucker is remanded to said jail, and
the Sheriff and jailer of the County of Marion is hereby
ordered to receive the said James Tucker and Keep
in custody until said punishment and sentence is
fulfilled.

vs } Indictment for an assault with
Simon a Slave } intent to Kill,
}
Now on this day Simon a Slave
late of the County of Alachua who stands indicted of
an assault with intent to Kill, was led to the bar in
custody of the Sheriff and jailer of this court and James
B. Dawkins the Solicitor prosecuting for the State by consent
of the court saith that he will not prosecute further on
behalf of the State vs. Simon a slave, who stands accused
of an Assault with intent to Kill and thereupon the
Solicitor informing the court that he intended to prosecute
said Simon a slave for an Assault and Battery
upon a white man with intent to Kill, he the said
Simon a slave, was remanded to jail in the county of
Marion to answer offence there being no |
