vs } Stealing a Slave

And now on this day came the Solicitor J.B. Dawkins
Esq. who prosecutes the pleas of the State in this behalf as well also the
defendant in his own proper person and by his attorneys and the prisoner
being formally arraigned pleaded "not guilty" and put himself upon
the Country and thereupon came a jury to wit,

4 Thomas C. Colson 10 R.S. Stoughton
5 John R. Cason 11 John D. Young
6 Wiley S. Bennett 12 Andrew Jackson
who being duly selected and sworn well and truly to try and true
deliverance make between the State of Florida and the prisoner at the
bar, after having heard the testimony of witnesses the argument of
Counsel and charge of the Court retired to consider of their verdict
rendered the following to wit, We the Jury find the Prisoner Not Guilty
Whereupon it is ordered considered and adjudged by the Court
that the defendant do have and recover of and from the State
of Florida his costs in this behalf Expended Taxed at
Dollars and cents and the plaintiff in mercy &c

On motion of Dawkins Soli-
citor it is ordered that Judgment of Nolle Pros-
-equi be entered up in this case.

James J. Kennard }
It appearing that said James
J. Kennard has escaped from the jail of Columbia
County, where he was committed, it is ordered by the
Court that a capias do issue to the Sheriff of
Alachua County to arrest him
The Court then adjourned until tomorrow morning 9 O.C.
