The State of Florida  }
        vs            }  convicted of Assault & Battery with
Simon a Slave         }  intent to Kill a white man

Simon a slave who stands convicted of an
assault & Battery with intent to Kill a white
man was again led to the bar in custody
of the Jailor of this court and thereupon it
being demanded of him if anything he
had for himself or Know to say why the Court
here to Judgment and Execution against
him of and upon the premises should not
proceed replied that he had nothing to say,
whereupon the Court proceeded to pass the
following sentence
"The sentence of the court is that you Simon
"a slave whereof you stand convicted be
"therefore hanged by the neck until you
"are dead that the Sheriff of Alachua
"County as his deputy do on peril of what
"may fall thereon cause execution to be
"done in the premises upon you on Friday
"the Twenty ninth day of May now next
"ensuing being the Twenty ninth day of
"May in the year of our Lord one Thousand
"Eight hundred and fifty seven at or near
"the town of Gainesville in the said County of
"Alachua between the hours of nine Oclock
"in the forenoon and Twelve Oclock at
"noon of the same day; and that you now
"be taken from hence to the jail at Ocala
"in Marion County from whence you came
"there or in some other convenient jail within
"the Eastern Circuit of Florida to be closely kept
"until the day of Execution and from thence
"on the Day of Execution appointed as aforesaid
"you are to be taken to the place of Execution
"there to be hanged as aforesaid until you
"are dead"
  Ordered that the Clerk do certify this
Sentence to the Sheriff of Alachua County;
