            Tuesday December 15th 1857
The State of Florida} Indictment Assault & Battery
      vs            } John H. May late of the County of Alachua who stands 
                      convicted at this
John H. May         } Term of this Court if Assault & Battery upon Daniel W. Mizelle was
again Led to the Bar in Custody of the Jailor of this Court and thereupon it being
demanded of him if anything for himself he had and or knew to say why the Court here
Should not now proceed to pronounce Judgment against him according to Law and
nothing being offered or alleged in delay of Judgement it is considered by the Court
that the said John H. May be imprisoned in the Public Jail of the County of
Alachua for the Term of Ten days the period by the Jurors in their verdict
ascertained, And thereupon the said John H. May is remanded to Jail
and Stand committed untill the Costs of Suit are paid
         16th Decem 1857          B.A. Putnam

                        And now on this day came the parties
by their respective attorneys and also came a jury to wit -
        1  William D. Clark          7  John J. Turner
        2  V.R. Prevatt              8  John W. Peacock
        3  Willis Peacock            9  McKeen Carlton
        4  Isaac Roundtree           10 A. Robb
        5  James T. Thomas           11 Robt Oconner
        6  James Voyle               12 William H. Babcock
who being duly Elected tried and sworn well and truly to try the
issue joined according to law and evidence, after hearing
the Evidence, the arguments of Counsel and charge of the
court retired to consider of their verdict, and afterwards, to wit
on the same day said jury returned into Court and rendered
the following verdict, We the jury find for the Plaintiff and
and assess his debt and damages in the sum of Six hundred
and forty four dollars and thirty nine cents -
  Thereupon it is ordered, considered and adjudged that said
Plaintiff do have and recover of and from the said defendant his
said debt of Six hundred and forty four dollars and thirty nine
cents with interest thereon till paid together with the further sum
of                 dollars and               for his costs
in this behalf expended and the defendant in mercy &c
